Rep. Erika White Releases Statement on Old West End Festival Shooting

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) today issued the following statement regarding the shooting that occurred at the Old West End Festival on Saturday.
“I am heartbroken at the violence that occurred at this beloved community event over this past weekend. My prayers are with every victim, every family, every first responder, every neighbor and everyone impacted by this senseless violence.
The Old West represents community, culture, and connection. It is a reminder that our shared spaces should always be places where families can gather, celebrate, and belong. That’s why moments like this are so difficult. When violence of this magnitude occurs, these events are overcome with fear and mistrust. People deserve spaces where they can gather without fear and where community can be celebrated safely. As stories of gun violence become more common, it is important we highlight the value of places like the Old West End.
These are places worth protecting. It is important that we highlight the importance of responsible gun ownership and gun violence prevention. My office will continue to emphasize the importance of gun safety and support measures collectively that can be taken to prevent this from happening again. We cannot allow violence to define who we are,” said Rep. White.
