COLUMBUS – State Rep. Christine Cockley (D-Columbus) Tuesday hosted a Prevent, Listen, Act, Navigate (P.L.A.N.) Ohio town hall at the Hilltop Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library engaging constituents in an open dialogue on the need for gun violence prevention, survivor support, and commonsense firearm safety policies.

“Gun violence is a crisis affecting every part of Ohio, from small towns to big cities,” said Rep. Cockley. “In my own community, I see the pain and fear it creates far too often. Our communities deserve to feel safe and are calling for common-sense solutions that keep families safe. This town hall was about listening, coming together, and taking real steps toward change.”

Rep. Cockley was joined by state Reps. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) and Darnell Brewer (D-Cleveland), state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus), and community leaders who discussed legislative efforts and resources to address the public health crisis of gun violence in Ohio.

The event is part of the House Democratic Caucus’ P.L.A.N. Ohio initiative, which aims to:

  • Prevent gun violence through education and safe firearm storage practices;
  • Listen to community concerns around trauma response;
  • Act through civic engagement and legislative advocacy; and
  • Navigate available resources for mental health care, youth programs, and survivor support.

P.L.A.N. Ohio town halls are being hosted throughout the state to raise awareness, promote safety, and provide tools that help build safer communities for all Ohioans.
