COLUMBUS — State Rep. Christine Cockley (D-Columbus) today filed a House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) condemning the recent Executive Order put forth by the Trump administration that will limit states’ right to regulate Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Rep. Cockley has been actively engaged in Ohio’s AI policy efforts, including legislation to prevent AI systems from encouraging self-harm and to prohibit the use of AI in therapeutic decision-making without proper safeguards. These initiatives reflect a growing bipartisan consensus that reasonable guardrails are necessary as AI tools become more integrated into everyday life.

“The regulation of AI is not a partisan issue. State government works closely with its constituents, are better positioned to understand local needs, and more capable of responding quickly to emerging issues. This executive order freezes progress and prevents states from doing the work they are uniquely equipped to do,” said Rep. Cockley.

Earlier this week, Senator Louis W. Blessing, III (R-Colerain Township) introduced a companion Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR), demonstrating a bipartisan-bicameral agreement that states must retain the ability to govern emerging technologies in the absence of clear federal standards.

The HCR and SCR currently await a Resolution number.
