COLUMBUS – State Representative Brett Hillyer (R-Uhrichsville) highlights House Bill 229, which passed the General Assembly today. The legislation aids Ohio tourism by supporting the area’s campgrounds.

Through the committee process, Representative Hillyer was responsible for adding an amendment to the addressed problems the community of Zoar was having with their military living history events at Zoar and Fort Laurens.

The amendment proposed by Representative Hillyer will help to ensure the living history events at Zoar and Fort Laurens can continue to operate their historical reenactments without fear of violating sections of the Ohio Revised Code.

“This was a common-sense amendment that will help the community of Zoar continue its longstanding tradition of historical reenactments,” said Hillyer. “These reenactments are extremely important to ZCA’s financial sustainability and I am pleased to have helped the community continue their wonderful work educating youth while accurately depicting historical events.”

House Bill 229 has many cosponsors within the House and after receiving a concurrence vote from the Senate it will now head to the Governor for his signature.
