State Rep. Dr. Beth Liston (D-Dublin) joined Universal Health Care Action Network (UHCAN) and advocates at a Statehouse press conference Wednesday to support the fight for affordable healthcare in Ohio.

“When people do not have adequate access to healthcare because of affordability, doctors have to treat the complications of disease rather than help people to stay healthy,” said Dr. Liston. “This increases the cost of healthcare and leads to worse health outcomes.”

UHCAN’s Consumer Healthcare Experience State Survey examined affordability, surprise medical bills and prescription costs across multiple states. The survey found that one in two Ohioans has experienced healthcare affordability burdens in the last year, and four out of five Ohioans are concerned about their ability to afford healthcare in the future.

"In some cases, such as with insulin, patients resort to rationing their life-saving medication. As a result, people are dying,” added Liston. “I have been working with my colleague Senator Hearcel Craig to draft legislation to help Ohioans who struggle to afford this life-saving drug, and we plan to introduce this bill in the coming weeks.”
