Democracy Prevails as Ohioans Defeat Issue 1

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Willis Blackshear (D-Dayton) yesterday praised the citizens of Ohio for their overwhelming support in defeating Issue 1 during the August 8th Special Election.

“Across Ohio, people of all backgrounds have come together to show that the many can defeat the money. Ohioans sent the special interests behind this attack on our freedoms a message that was loud and clear: you cannot take away our rights. Now it’s time for my colleagues in the legislature to set aside divisive, wasteful tactics like Issue 1 and get to work delivering for Ohio’s communities,” said Rep. Blackshear.

The defeat of Issue 1 is a significant victory for safeguarding Ohio’s democratic process while respecting the diverse opinions of its citizens. It ensures that future constitutional changes will reflect the majority’s will and uphold the principle of “one person, one vote.”
