COLUMBUS –State Rep. Sara Carruthers (R-Hamilton) and members of the Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 33, known as the two-year state operating budget for Fiscal Years 2024-2025. Legislation highlights include a new school funding reform plan, support for families, and several other initiatives.

Carruthers secured funding for the Ohio Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs, which has a great impact on helping young people reach their full potential as productive and responsible adults.

“I am proud to say that this budget is truly one that benefits all Ohioans,” said Carruthers. “Over the next two years, our state will invest in Ohio’s future by making sure moms have safe and stable housing, our schools have proper funding, and that our economy provides multiple opportunities for Ohioans and the business community alike.”

This legislation also invests over $8 billion in FY24 and more than $8.2 billion in FY25 to fund the Fair School Funding Plan, one of the House’s priority provisions. This funding will play a significant role in setting Ohio students up for success.

House Bill 33 also includes a series of provisions in support of families and children, and older Ohioans.

·         $16 million over the biennium for childcare infrastructure, to improve availability and quality of childcare

·         $15 million for Healthy Beginnings at Home to promote stable housing initiatives for pregnant mothers and improve maternal and infant health

·         Medicaid coverage of milk fortifiers

·         Increasing state support for nursing facilities will provide higher quality care for more Ohioans, ensuring that our elderly and disabled citizens receive the care they deserve

Carruthers also secured $125,000 over the biennium in local funding for Fringe Industries, a non-profit that seeks to restore value, dignity, and worth to each individual involved by helping them find their voice, share their stories, and re-imagine their future.

The budget now heads to Governor Mike DeWine for his signature.
