Rep. Weinstein Calls for Thorough, Fair Investigation of Everyone Involved in HB 6 Political Scandal

Casey Weinstein News

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) Sunday served as a guest columnist in the Akron Beacon Journal where he wrote an op-ed detailing his concerns with the investigation into the House Bill (HB) 6 scandal, the biggest political corruption scandal in Ohio history.

“Until every friend in a high place is investigated and exposed, then the lack of deterrence all but assures that this will happen again,” wrote Rep. Weinstein.

HB 6 was passed by the 133rd General Assembly and increased electricity rates and funded the bailout of two nuclear power plants. Since then, former House Speaker Larry Householder, former chair of the Ohio Republican Party Matt Borges, and former Gov. DeWine appointed PUCO chairman Sam Randazzo have all been linked to the FirstEnergy-lead bribery scheme,  Randazzo and two former FirstEnergy executives being the latest to be indicted by the state.

Senate Minority Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) and House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) recently sent a letter to the U.S Department of Justice asking for more federal assistance in the HB 6 investigations. Rep. Weinstein fully supports these efforts.

“We need a thorough and fair investigation no matter where it leads. I won’t stop demanding the truth and neither should you,” wrote Rep. Weinstein in the Akron Beacon Journal.
