Cutrona Supports Tax Relief for Seniors and Veterans

State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) on Wednesday supported legislation indexing the homestead exemption to inflation, which provides relief for Ohio’s seniors and veterans. Cutrona is a cosponsor of the bill as it passed in the Ohio House during legislative session.

“In the Ohio House, we’re fighting to reduce property taxes on fixed incomes for the elderly and our military veterans to ensure more financial stability for them,” Cutrona said. “Due to historic rises in these taxes, I believe we should protect our seniors and veterans.”

The legislation creates a more predictable tax environment on those fixed incomes. By doing so, the legislation provides the relief necessary to help them afford their homes and in their communities.

Specifically, the bill allocates $11 million in fiscal year 2024 and $35 million in fiscal year 2025 to foster economic security for these individuals.

The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration.
