State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) announces the State Controlling Board approved a measure Monday for $116,388 for services at the Ohio State Penitentiary (OSP) in Youngstown.

“These capital funds released are going to revamp the penitentiary’s water treatment system to ensure it’s kept updated and functioning for the facility for improved conditions for both inmates and staff,” Cutrona said.

Cutrona supported the measure through House Bill 597 during the previous General Assembly.

OSP is a high-security, six-story correctional facility operated by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Currently, OSP is looking to install a new water treatment system capable of softening the water for the entire main facility. This project scope includes the following:

  • Replacement of existing piping.
  • Removal of non-functioning domestic pump system based on system requirements and location needs.
  • All system controls and/or alarms will be incorporated into the current Johnson Controls network.
