Cutrona Announces $1 Million Funding Award for Struthers' Downtown Safety Project

State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) announces $1 million in funding to the City of Struthers for their innovative downtown traffic calming project. This funding is part of the Ohio Department of Transportation's (ODOT) Systemic Safety Funding Program, aimed at preventing injuries caused by pedestrian-related crashes and roadway departure crashes. 

“Enhancing transportation and infrastructure in our communities is certainly an important issue,” Cutrona said. “I’m excited for this significant funding coming to Struthers to improve the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and everyone else traveling within this downtown area.”

The City of Struthers' downtown traffic calming project includes the installation of bike lanes and the implementation of curb extensions along Bridge Street. These measures will effectively calm traffic that enters the city from the south, providing a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists. The project's scope encompasses the area from Yellow Creek Park through downtown Struthers.

The funding for this project will be awarded through ODOT's Highway Safety Improvement Program, which has become one of the largest traffic safety programs in the country, with an annual budget of $185 million.

The City of Struthers has been selected as a recipient of this funding in Fiscal Year 2026, reflecting their commitment to enhancing the safety and livability of their community. The downtown traffic calming project will focus on implementing various measures to improve road safety and create a more pedestrian-friendly environment.
