COLUMBUS – House Minority Leader and Commission member Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) issued a statement today after the Redistricting Commission abruptly adjourned without a plan to produce new constitutional state legislative maps by the May 6th Ohio Supreme Court deadline. Democrats made a motion to re-hire the independent mapmakers to review and revise the state legislative maps they produced in the last round of map drawing, but the motion was rejected by the Republican commissioners.

“We have an obligation under the Constitution and to the voters of Ohio to produce fair, constitutional state legislative maps by the May 6th court deadline,” said Leader Russo. “Let’s be perfectly clear— the Republican commissioners manufactured this time crunch when they refused to hold meetings despite repeated requests from us to do so. Ohioans won’t tolerate any more hollow excuses from the majority. We can produce these maps if we to get to work without further delay. We are ready to get this done for Ohio voters.”

The Redistricting Commission will meet again tomorrow at 4:45 pm in Room 313 at the Ohio Statehouse.
