COLUMBUS – State Rep. Thomas E. West (D-Canton) today issued a statement following news that Amazon is building a new one-million-square-foot fulfillment facility in Canton, which will bring 1,000 new jobs to the community:

“The sun is shining on the city of Canton today,” said Rep. West. “Amazon’s decision is proof of how much our city has to offer and the bright future that lies ahead. It is always exciting to see so many new good-paying jobs created right here in Stark County, as well as the jobs the construction process will bring. I am especially encouraged to hear that Amazon chose Canton without the benefit of any incentives from the partner organizations involved in this process.

“Credit to our city’s leadership, the Stark Economic Development Board, the Stark County Commissioners, JobsOhio, and Team NEO for their work in making this facility a reality.”

According to a release from JobsOhio, the facility is slated to open in 2022 and will create 1,000 new jobs at a wage of $18 per hour, along with comprehensive health benefits, paid time off, and up to 20 weeks fully paid parental leave.
