State Rep. Thomas E. West (D-Canton) today issued the following statement on the passage of House Bill (HB) 6, a controversial bill that changes Ohio’s clean energy programs:
“This legislation is incredibly complex, and it was a tough decision to make. After much consideration and conversations with constituents, businesses and stakeholders in my district, I decided to vote yes on HB 6. Although the bill is not perfect, it will ultimately lower consumers’ energy bills and preserve more than 5,000 good-paying jobs directly or indirectly tied to the plants.
“If these plants were to close, taxpayers would lose revenue both from highly skilled workers who would be forced to find jobs elsewhere and from the loss of profits generated by the plants. There was an incredible amount of money put into both the proponent and opponent efforts across the state, and a lot of misinformation passed around. I am committed to continuing to work in a bipartisan manner to move Ohio forward.”
