COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) recognizes August as Ohio Military Family Month. The month designation is an opportunity for Ohioans to honor the sacrifices and commitment military members and their loved ones make to our nation.

“Ohio’s military families serve as unwavering support systems for our service men and women,” said Patton. “Please join me in recognizing and honoring the spouses, children, parents and relatives of our state’s military members during Ohio Military Family Month.”

The Ohio General Assembly passed the following legislation this year that supports Ohio’s military families:

- Senate Bill 7 grants license reciprocity for active duty military families to ease the transition for military spouses who relocate to Ohio
- House Bill 16 grants state college residency status to military and dependents to help reduce the cost of education for our service men and women
- House Bill 18 exempts veteran’s disability severance payments from the state income tax
- House Bill 287 provides Medicaid waivers for military families with special-needs dependents in Ohio and grants reciprocity when transitioning duties to our state

“I’m thankful these bills have been signed into law so that Ohio can continue support our state’s military families,” added Patton.

The Ohio General Assembly designated August as Ohio Military Family Month in 2009.
