Rep. Galonski Votes "No" on State Budget, Believes it Doesn't Meet the Standards Ohioans Deserve
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) released the following statement after voting against the Ohio state operating budget (HB 33):
“I voted against this budget because of the cruelty imposed on it by Senate Republicans. In a state that is urging women to experience forced birth, it is unconscionable to choose not to fund programs that support pregnant Ohioans who are in need of basic needs like housing and healthcare.” said Rep. Galonski. “I also vehemently oppose the vast expansion of private school vouchers with no accountability attached, especially when we still are not adequately funding our public schools. While there are provisions in this budget that will ultimately benefit working Ohioans, House Bill 33 does more harm than good, and I cannot support it.”
Ohio House Democrats will continue to prioritize legislation that always puts people first and upholds the freedom to be who we are, the dignity of representation, and the opportunity to thrive.
HB 33 was signed by Governor DeWine, who vetoed 44 line items in the budget, over the holiday weekend.
