Rep. Galonski statement on postponement of voter purge

Says purge process threatens Ohioans' most fundamental freedom

Tavia Galonski News

State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) issued the following statement in response to the news that Secretary of State Husted is directing counties not to purge voters before the August and November 2018 elections:

“While I am pleased to hear that the voter purge will not impact the thousands of voters looking to cast their ballots in the midterm elections, no voter should ever have their name at risk of being removed from the rolls for simply not voting often enough. Our right to vote is one of our most sacred and fundamental freedoms—and should not be infringed upon by Columbus bureaucrats. Every eligible Ohio voter has the constitutional right to register, vote and have that vote counted whenever we choose. Ohio’s aggressive voter purge is a direct hindrance to that freedom.”

Galonski represents Ohio’s 35th district, which is comprised of parts of Akron and Barberton.
