State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) today highlighted her opposition to House Bill (HB) 78, an anti-worker bill designed to reduce pay for skilled labor by eliminating prevailing wage requirements in Ohio.
“Not guaranteeing workers a prevailing wage when tax dollars are being used is a blatant disrespect of Ohio’s hard working people,” said Galonski. “The prevailing wage law ensures that tax dollars are being properly utilized so that workers are given fair compensation, and big business cannot price gouge. HB 78 is just the latest GOP attack on workers’ rights in Ohio.”
Prevailing wage legislation ensures that workers earn a fair wage. Laws like House Bill 78 reduce the efficiency and safety of projects and cut worker pay, harming the public interest and workers alike.
Rep. Galonski has been a strong opponent of HB 78 since its introduction, and is hopeful the bill will not progress beyond a first committee hearing.
