State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) accepted an appointment last Friday to serve on the Ohio Supreme Court task force, which examines how bail is determined in Ohio’s criminal justice system.
“As current Co-Chair of the Ohio House Criminal Justice Sentencing Subcommittee, I understand the importance of comprehensively examining our criminal justice system to ensure a fair sentencing process for all Ohioans,” said Galonski. “I believe bail reform is an integral part of criminal justice reform, and I take honor in this opportunity.”
Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor convened the 24-member task force last month to study bail practices in other states, review legal challenges to the elimination of bail and examine pretrial services and risk assessments used in bail decisions. The panel is expected to make its recommendations in April.
Rep. Galonski represents House District 35, which includes parts of Akron and Barberton.
