State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) today applauded the House passage of House Bill (HB) 264, bipartisan legislation aimed at saving taxpayer money and improving public water and waste water infrastructure projects in Ohio.

“Earlier this year, part of my district was hit with massive flooding, with streets under water, homes damaged and businesses suffering major losses. Had HB 264 been in effect, the problem could have been avoided entirely as the city would have had better access to funds for infrastructure improvements before it became a problem,” said Rep. Galonski. “HB 264 maintains our Ohio promise to protect the public by making sure necessary utilities are fully operational.”

HB 264 would authorize the Ohio Water Development Authority to make loans and grants to both persons and government agencies for specific public water and wastewater infrastructure projects. In addition, the Ohio Water Development Authority would be able to issue water development revenue bonds and notes in order to pay any part of refinancing projects.

HB 264 now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
