Galonski responds to "mega-department of education" proposal
State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) today released the following statement in response to a Republican proposal to create a mega-department of education with an additional state school board and superintendent:
"The last thing children and parents need is even more chaos at the Statehouse, and yet the Ohio legislature continues to thumb its nose at its constitutional duty to serve students and taxpayers across the state. A one-size-fits-all approach to provide quality education undermines the modern day needs of students in our rapidly changing economy. Instead of working to meet students where they are developmentally and helping them earn the necessary skills to better compete for jobs in the future, this mega-department will allow for more desks in a Columbus high-rise for political appointees."
Galonski is a member of the House Education Committee and represents the 35th District, which consists of parts of Akron and Barberton.
