State Representative Bob Cupp (R-Allen County) announced today that the Ohio House of Representatives, in a joint session along with the Ohio Senate, presented the Medal of Distinction to the family of SSG Sonny C. Zimmerman, from Lima, Ohio.
The Medal of Distinction recognizes members of the armed forces who have died while serving their country. Zimmerman was killed in action on July, 16th, 2013. A 2005 graduate of Waynesfield-Goshen High School, Zimmerman was killed in action on July, 16th, 2013, in Afghanistan.
“The Medal of Distinction presentation is one way to honor the service and sacrifice of SSG Sonny Zimmerman and to keep his memory alive,” Cupp said. “It also honors the particular sacrifice and loss of the family members of our fallen soldier, whose loved one died defending our nation and our nation’s values.”
The Medal of Distinction was first created through Senate Bill 248 during the 127th General Assembly. The ceremony included remarks by Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville), Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) and other dignitaries.
