COLUMBUS—State Representatives Emilia Sykes (D-Akron) and Paul Zeltwanger (R-Mason) yesterday hosted Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated at the Ohio House of Representatives for the fourth annual Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated Day at the Capitol.
“As a member of this esteem organization I consider it my honor to host these women today as they promote scholarship and service to all mankind,” said Sykes. “We work hard in Alpha Kappa Alpha to empower and educate our communities and I am pleased that I am able to assist.”
“My office is closely connected with this organization and it is my pleasure to help make this day possible,” said Zeltwanger.
This year over 100 women came to learn about the different ways they can ‘Be The Voice’ in their specific communities and throughout Ohio. Alpha Kappa Alpha Day at the Capitol is a time when all members of the organization who reside in Ohio have an opportunity to travel to Columbus for an educational legislative day.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is the first black sorority established in 1908 on the campus of Howard University. The motto of the organization is “Service to All Mankind.”
