State Rep. Mike Loychik (R-Bazetta) announces a provision within the operating budget legislation that includes a total of $300,000 in Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 to address school safety for local schools across Trumbull County.

“One of the specific issues that I brought up time and time again last year if I made it into the General Assembly was to find ways to enhance school safety,” said Loychik. “With today’s climate and moving forward post-pandemic, I believe it is critical that we work to ensure the utmost of safety for our children across Trumbull County – this line-item in the budget works to address just that.”

If the bill ultimately passes with this provision, a total of 18 school districts and two nonpublic schools within Trumbull County will be distributed $15,000 to purchase temporary emergency door barricades for classrooms and administrative offices. Additionally, this part of the bill allows for the purchase of surveillance cameras.

The schools set to receive the $15,000 allocations include Bloomfield Mespo, Bristol, Brookfield, Champion, Girard City, Howland, Hubbard Exempted Village, Joseph Badger, LaBrae, Lakeview, Lordstown, Maplewood, Mathews, McDonald, Niles City, Southington, Warren City, Weathersfield, Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Academy and Preschool, and the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown Catholic Schools.

The operating budget legislation is currently moving through the committee process within the Ohio House.
