Rep. Lepore-Hagan applauds second chance to draw fair, constitutional state legislative maps that better reflect Ohio

COLUMBUS —State Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) today issued a statement after the Ohio Supreme Court struck down the state House and Senate legislative maps.

“Republicans have been told, again, that they are out of order. Ohioans testified, spoke up, and demanded reform. Communities across the state deserve representation and for their votes to count. Enough of the excuses and enough of the delays from my Republican colleagues. It is time for us to produce fair maps. It is time to run on your ideas, not your rigged system, and let the voters decide. We should listen to voters instead of cutting voters out, over and over again.”

The state legislative maps passed by the Ohio Redistricting Commission in September along a 5-2 party line vote were ruled unconstitutional because they did not comply with the core anti-gerrymandering provision of the Ohio Constitution. New 10-year state legislative maps would require the support of four out of seven Commission members, including both Democrats.
