Rep. Michael Sheehy (D-Oregon) today announced the House passage of House Bill (HB) 616, which includes a provision sponsored by Reps. Sheehy and Lisa Sobecki (D-Toledo) to create an Ohio license plate honoring the Battle of Fallen Timbers. Contributions made when purchasing this plate will benefit the Fallen Timbers Battlefield Preservation Commission, whose mission is to promote the importance of the site through education and preservation.

“I am pleased to see the Fallen Timbers Battlefield license plate included in this bill,” said Rep. Sheehy. “Their mission to preserve the history of Ohio through education is an important one. We all have room to learn from our past.”

The Battle of Fallen Timbers was the final battle of the Northwest Indian War between the United States and a British and Native American alliance. The battle was fought among trees toppled by a tornado near the Maumee River. The resulting treaty from the war ceded most of modern-day Ohio to the United States.

HB 616, which includes a number of other new license plates in addition to the Battle of Fallen Timbers plate, now heads to the Senate for consideration.
