COLUMBUS– State Rep. Michael Sheehy (D-Oregon) today gave sponsor testimony before the Ohio House Transportation and Public Safety Committee on House Bill (HB) 728, to designate a portion of State Route 184 as the “Officer Anthony Dia Memorial Highway.” Following Rep. Sheehy’s testimony, the committee voted in favor of the bill.

“Toledo Police Officer Anthony Dia was tragically killed in the line-of-duty on July 4th, 2020. This unprovoked murder is an affront to and an assault on every citizen of Ohio. His impact on the lives he touched while he was with us cannot be diminished. While the city of Toledo and the State of Ohio continue to mourn his loss, we can honor Officer Dia’s sacrifice and his commitment to serve and protect his community,” said Rep. Sheehy.

During his last call, Officer Dia responded to assist a citizen in a Home Depot parking lot on State Route 184, also known as Alexis Road. The citizen produced a firearm and fired it, striking Officer Dia in the chest.

Officer Dia is the 31st Toledo police officer to have lost their life in the line of duty. He is survived by his wife, Jayme, and two children.

The bill now awaits its third consideration on the House floor.
