COLUMBUS – The Ohio House of Representatives today voted to pass House Bill 614, sponsored by State Representative Mark Fraizer (R-Newark). The legislation will improve Ohio’s unemployment compensation system by creating the Unemployment Compensation Modernization and Improvement Council.

House Bill 614 also includes a Senate amendment that appropriates $650 million in CARES Act funding to counties, municipalities and townships to fund COVID-19 pandemic-related expenses. This CARES funding for counties, municipalities and townships is in addition to the $525 million provided earlier this year. $5,126,949 will be granted to the 71st Ohio House District.

“Ohio’s unemployment compensation system was completely overwhelmed by the sudden increase in claims filed due to the pandemic,” said Fraizer. “The system will not improve without intervention from the General Assembly and I am proud to have co-sponsored this legislation with my colleague Tracy Richardson.”
