COLUMBUS – State Rep. Mark Fraizer (R-Newark) announced today that the State Transportation Review Advisory Council has approved $9.5 million in construction funds for the Thornwood Crossing project. This project when completed will extend Thornwood Crossing from Cherry Crossing Road via a new roundabout at the intersection of Reddington Road.
This project will keep traffic off the Showman Arch Bridge, which was built in 1833 with the purpose of carrying water for the Ohio and Erie Canal. As a result of this funding, a new road will cross Raccoon Creek and the T.J. Evans Trail with a new and improved three-span steel girder bridge. The Showman Arch Bridge will be decommissioned from road use and the new construction will result in safe passage.
This project will increase truck-friendly economic development in our community by creating an efficient and safe route for semi-trucks exiting from Ohio 16 to Interstate 70. During the 2023 fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2022, the funds will be accessible for this project to begin.
“It is wonderful to be awarded these funds that will, in turn, make our community more accessible and capable to increase economic development in our community,” said Fraizer.
