COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lisa Sobecki (D-Toledo) today issued a statement following the news that Intel plans to invest more than $20 billion to build two factories in Ohio by 2025, employing 3,000 workers at an average salary of $135,000 per year. Additionally, the investment is expected to create 7,000 construction jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs.

“I’m pleased that Intel has selected Ohio for the site of what will be the largest semiconductor production facility in the world,” said Rep. Sobecki. “The project will create thousands of good-paying jobs right here at home. Domestic semiconductor production is extremely important and a great opportunity for Ohio. The Ohio legislature can continue to encourage this type of economic investment by passing my resolution to address the semiconductor production shortage.”

Rep. Sobecki jointly sponsored a resolution to encourage the passage of the CHIPS Act, which would address semiconductor production shortages. Semiconductors are also critical to car manufacturing, especially for electronic vehicles. The Ohio House recently passed Rep. Sobecki’s bill to establish an Electric Vehicles Commission.
