COLUMBUS – Today, State Rep. Lisa Sobecki (D-Toledo) condemned Gov. DeWine’s decision to reappoint Mike Gonidakis, an anti-abortion activist who was critical of measures during the pandemic to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to the State Medical Board.
“Like many of my constituents and advocates across the state, I am deeply concerned by the reappointment of Mr. Gonidakis to the Medical Board. It is troubling that someone who spread misinformation about a deadly virus has oversight of Ohio’s medical profession,” said Rep. Sobecki. “Furthermore, Mr. Gonidakis’ extreme anti-abortion views do not reflect the views of the vast majority of Ohioans who he is supposed to represent on the Medical Board. I am disappointed that Gov. DeWine chose someone with such a divisive background. I call on him to replace Mr. Gonidakis with a qualified individual who can represent the views of all Ohioans in need of medical care, including those at high-risk of deadly symptoms brought on by COVID-19 infection, and those in need of access to reproductive healthcare, like a 10-year-old rape survivor.”
