COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lisa Sobecki (D-Toledo) today applauded General Motors (GM) for announcing they will invest in GM Powertrain Toledo. Rep. Sobecki accompanied GM executives, Senator Sherrod Brown, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur for the announcement.
“Toledo has a deep connection to the auto-industry, and our thriving manufacturing industry has helped build our country. GM’s announcement to invest in GM Powertrain Toledo not only supports our local economy and dedicated workers, it makes us leaders in the path to the next generation of vehicles,” said Rep. Sobecki. “To ensure Ohio continues to be a competitive state for major investments in this rapidly growing sector, we must pass my HB 292 to establish a State Electric Vehicle Commission. Other states including Michigan and Indiana have taken similar action, and we can’t be left behind.”
HB 292 has bipartisan support and overwhelmingly passed the Ohio House in November 2021. It still awaits hearings in the Ohio Senate.
In October 2021, Rep. Sobecki called on Governor DeWine to join the Regional Electric Vehicle Midwest Coalition. The Coalition’s objective is to expand the use of electric vehicles and electric vehicle support infrastructure throughout the Midwest. The coalition includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
