COLUMBUS— State Reps. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) and Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today introduced House Bill (HB) 491, which would establish the Ohio Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program and provide economic stability to working families during such instances as medical emergencies, caring for sick loved ones, or welcoming a newborn into the family.  It would also provide an employee with paid bereavement leave for a stillbirth or the death of a child. Democrats previously introduced paid family leave in the 132nd and 133rd General Assemblies.

Today, on this year’s Equal Pay Day, State Reps. Erica C. Crawley (D-Columbus) and Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) reintroduced legislation to fight pay discrimination in Ohio by establishing a toll-free equal pay hotline, an easily accessible, anonymous resource for workers to report wage discrimination and gather more information to find out if they could be victims of pay discrimination.

COLUMBUS— Today, Rep. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) signed on as a co-sponsor to the Ohio Fairness Act, bipartisan legislation that would protect LGBTQ+ Ohioans from discrimination in employment, housing and accommodations. A previous version of the Ohio Fairness Act (The Equal Housing and Employment Act) passed the Ohio House of Representatives on Sept. 15, 2009, with bipartisan support. Last General Assembly, the Ohio Fairness Act had 3 hearings but did not receive a committee vote.

Rep. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) issued a statement following the passage of House Bill (HB) 74, the state’s two-year transportation budget. Democrats fought against the governor’s proposed cuts to public transit funding in the bill, securing $193.7 million over the next two years, double the governor’s proposed investment. Boyd voted in favor of the bill, which now heads to the Senate for consideration.
