Rep. Click recently introduced HB 429 in partnership with Rep. Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe) to ensure greater safety for drivers and workers in Ohio’s roadside work zones. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 4,106 work-zone related accidents occurred in Ohio in 2023, 8 of which involved fatalities. Accidents in work zones are often highly preventable, and this bi-partisan legislation will encourage safe driving by raising fines for traffic violations within work zones and implementing work zone safety into minimum driver’s education standards.
“ODOT has had over approximately 56 incidents last year, and 34 already this year.” Rep. Click told Spectrum News recently. “We need to just take the foot off the gas, tap the brakes, and slow down. Please show the employees some respect.”
