COLUMBUS—State Representative Dick Stein (R-Norwalk) announces the passage of House Resolution 518, which urges the federal government to set standards and develop advanced nuclear technologies.

The resolution petitions the United States Department of Energy to promulgate rules and establish programs allowing states to develop new nuclear designs and technologies, under federal authority, and to construct a prototype reactor. Ohio, ranked number two in the American nuclear supply chain, has the engineering, materials, and talent to support the advancement of these technologies far into the future. This resolution sends a clear message that Ohio has been, and should continue to be, a leader in nuclear technology development.

“Happy to see large bipartisan support for a measure recognizing some of Ohio’s biggest skillsets, engineering and manufacturing,” Rep. Stein said. “I look forward to the next phase of this project, to make Ohio a world leader in advanced nuclear design.”

The resolution passed with a vote of 73-2, and the Clerk of the House will now send the resolution to the United States Department of Energy.
