COLUMBUS—State Representative Darrell Kick (R-Loudonville) will be participating on the Ohio House Speaker’s Task Force on Education and Poverty.

He will be among 10 individuals from the legislature and various educational organizations to serve on the task force, whose purpose is to examine the issue of poverty and education and, in particular, the achievement gap related to that circumstance.

“This group faces a broad, weighty undertaking, but it is worthwhile in the face of what some our most impoverished youth must do to finish an education,” Kick said. “To be asked to serve on this task force with my colleagues and experts in the field of education is an honor.”

The end goal of the task force is both to generate information that will be useful to members of the General Assembly in their deliberations on education policy and to derive some practicable and proven-effective strategies from this effort that can be supported and enhanced by legislative and state policy.

The task force held its first meeting today in Columbus and will continue to meet over the next six weeks.
