COLUMBUS – State Representative Brett Hillyer (R-Uhrichsville) voted in favor of a pair of second amendment bills Wednesday, House Bill 99 and House Bill 227.

House Bill 99, sponsored by State Representative Thomas Hall (R-Madison Twp.), enhances school safety measures by enabling school districts to have local control of training requirements for arming teachers on school property.

“This legislation is important for the rural communities in my district as a delayed reaction time from first responders could result in the loss of life,” said Hillyer.

House Bill 227 will allow law-abiding Ohioans to carry a concealed handgun without a government-issued permit.

“I am proud to have voted for House Bill 227 which will protect the constitutional rights of Ohioans,” added Hillyer.

Ohio will retain its reciprocity with other states, but in order for an Ohioan to carry a concealed weapon in those states, they must obtain a concealed carry permit.

“I have and will continue to deliver on my promise to protect your second amendment rights,” said Hillyer.
