Cutrona Announces Local COVID-19 Relief Funding

Al Cutrona News

State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) announced that the state Controlling Board today approved COVID-19 relief funding, some of which will be allocated to local governments within the 59th Ohio House District. This will support a range of pandemic-related expenses, including the work of first responders and other local services that have been vital in areas across Ohio.

“COVID-19 has left our local governments financially struggling to make ends meet,” said Cutrona. “This critical relief will significantly help them bounce-back from the challenges they have faced when it comes to supporting our communities.”

Specifically, some of the measures passed includes:

  • $175 million in COVID-19 relief appropriations for the distribution to local governments throughout the state;
  • $31 million to ODJFS for child care support; and
  • $97.5 million to expand on the state’s testing efforts for COVID-19.

The $175 million in COVID-19 relief to local governments, townships, counties, and municipalities comes from the federal CARES Act initiative, and includes the following areas within the 59th Ohio House District:

  • Boardman Township - $251,297
  • Canfield City - $35,413
  • Canfield Township - $19,298
  • Poland Township - $17,143

Additionally, today’s approval will provide millions in total for Mahoning County. The measure is similar to the approval of $350 million to help local governments by the Ohio House of Representative under House Bill 481, which Cutrona supported and was signed into law over the summer.

The next scheduled Controlling Board meeting is set for Sept. 14.
