Democratic Reps. Adam Miller (D-Columbus), and Thomas West (D-Canton) today issued statements as their bills to enact commonsense gun safety finally came before the House State and Local Government Committee Tuesday. House Bills (HB) 319 and 320, part of legislative Democrats’ comprehensive gun safety package, were introduced over a year ago following the mass shooting in Dayton. HB 319 would restore local control of certain gun violence prevention efforts while HB 320 would prohibit the sale of a gun while a background check is pending.

COLUMBUS—Adam C. Miller (Columbus) today announced the introduction of legislation that calls for cracking down on intentional, overt acts that are aimed solely at keeping people from voting.  Under Ohio law, it is not a crime to intentionally mislead, intimidate, or coerce someone as to where, when, or how to vote. The legislation comes on the tails of reports of unauthorized groups and individuals being called to “monitor” the upcoming election across the country.

COLUMBUS—State Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) today announced that Senate Bill (SB) 163, legislation creating the Folds of Honor license plate, was signed into law yesterday by Gov. DeWine.  SB 163 includes House Bill (HB) 262 which was authored by Reps. Miller and Tracey Richardson (R-Marysville) and passed the Ohio House on June 19, 2019 by a vote of 97-0.

COLUMBUS— State Reps. Lisa Sobecki (Toledo) and Adam C. Miller (Columbus) today announced the introduction of the legislation that would increase funding for Ohio’s public libraries as they adapt and change to COVID-19 and 21st century technology and needs.  House Bill (HB) 773 calls for creating an addition library fund from the State’s Local Government Fund.  The fund will be available to all libraries that currently receive the PLF that are working to adapt to the current pandemic and needs of Ohio’s libraries and patrons.

State Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) today announced legislation that would prohibit individuals from possessing, receiving or purchasing firearms when they have been lawfully determined to pose a threat to themselves or others. The proposal would implement judicial prohibition for as long as an individual is deemed a threat and restore the ability to possess a firearm when that same judicial process determines there is no longer a threat.

“We can’t wait for gun safety to protect our children,” said Rep. Miller. “We need common sense legislation that protects those most vulnerable to gun violence. This narrowly tailored legislation is easy to understand; easy to implement.”

State Rep. Adam C. Miller (D-Columbus) today introduced legislation to establish a new grant program to help local courts better handle human trafficking and prostitution cases in Ohio. The million-dollar grant program would fund two important efforts aimed at cracking down and preventing human trafficking and prostitution.

“For too long we tried to combat human trafficking by increasing fees and penalties, and it hasn’t worked. The programs this grant seeks to support are innovative because they go to the fundamental root cause of sexual abuse,” said Rep. Miller. “Columbus and other communities are coming up with innovative programs like CATCH courts and Johns Schools that educate and work to prevent human trafficking and prostitution. Prevention and education are key and these grants will help expand these programs throughout Ohio.”
