COLUMBUS—State Representative Wes Retherford (R-Hamilton) today joined State Representative Candice Keller (R-Middletown) to present a resolution commending the Butler County Small Business Development Center on being named the National SBDC of the Year. The award was presented by the U.S. Small Business Administration at its 2017 National Small Business Week ceremony.

With the assistance of the Butler County SBDC, small businesses were able to create 115 jobs, retain 187 jobs, and bring in over 2.8 million dollars in new sales during 2015. Under the leadership of Director David Riggs, the facility accrued a total of 1,109 counseling hours in that year.

“Small business is the backbone of our economy,” said Rep. Retherford. “The work that the Hamilton Mill has done to promote small businesses in Butler County is one of many reasons they earned this national recognition. I look forward to continuing to work with them to make Butler County a better place to live, work, and play.”

The Butler County SBDC is funded through a partnership between the Ohio Development Services Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration, local higher educational institutions, and private donations. It offers the small business community informed advice on strategic planning, marketing, and gaining access to financial capital.
