State Rep. Retherford Applauds Butler County For Joining Transparency Project

State Representative Wes Retherford (R-Hamilton) recently applauded Butler County’s agreement to disclose the county’s finances on, an online resource to see how Ohio taxpayer dollars are being spent. 

“I applaud the commissioner’s decision to join this effort towards transparency,” said Retherford. “Allowing the citizens to have a streamlined search engine to keep up to date on the government's spending of their hard earned tax dollars is paramount to good governing.” is part of a transparency initiative to hold state and local governments accountable for how they are spending taxpayer dollars. Although the transparency project is still acquiring many local government records, there are currently more than 4.7 billion records totaling $496 billion of state spending listed on the online checkbook.

Since the launch of, the US Public Interest Research Group ranked Ohio number one for transparency in its 2015 report, “Follow the Money.” This was a significant jump from Ohio’s 47th ranking in a previous year prior to the online initiative being established.
