COLUMBUS -

During yesterday’s session of the Ohio House of Representatives, State Representative Wes Retherford (R-Hamilton) presented a House resolution to the 2012 Ross High School senior engineering design class for their victory at the National SkillsUSA Competition, which was held in Kansas City, Missouri in June 2012.

The class competed against more than 20 teams from across the country and placed first for their presentation and project. Their project involved creating a custom truck that will be used as a support vehicle at county fairs, tractor pulls and other events.

“The kind of ingenuity and training that the Ross High School Butler Tech Engineering Design Team showed in building their truck and earning national recognition are the kind of skills that we need to promote across the state,” said Rep. Retherford. “These young men and their instructors should be commended for the fine work they have done. It was my honor to present them with a resolution from the 130th General Assembly.”

The engineering design class at Ross High School is a two-year program sponsored by Butler Tech Vocational School that is offered to junior and seniors. The senior class of 2012 engaged in a project that involved modifying a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 truck and replacing the original engine with a John Deere diesel tractor engine from a 6910 John Deere tractor. The students also installed a lift kit and did the body work on the dented, rusted truck.

Since their victory at the National SkillsUSA Competitition, the truck has been featured in Diesel World Magazine, Farm World Magazine, and at the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza in Terre Haute, Indiana.
