State Representative Wes Retherford (R-Hamilton) today announced information regarding the application process for the Local Government Safety Capital Grant. Initiated by the Ohio House of Representatives and included in the state operating budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017, these grants can help to fund public safety projects in local communities throughout Ohio, including those in the 51st House District.

Funding for eligible projects must be used for purchasing vehicles, equipment, facilities and/or systems utilized by police, fire, and/or EMS providers to enhance public safety. The total request amount for projects is $100,000 per individual political subdivision.

“I want to make sure that the public safety departments of the 51st District are all aware of this opportunity. Finding the capital to upgrade or replace old equipment is often difficult, this is a way to offset those costs and ensure our police and fire officials have the proper tools to do their jobs.” said Retherford.

Applications must be submitted online and will be accepted February 16, 2016 through March 21, 2016. The Local Government Innovation Council is administering the program.

More information on the application process can be found here: www.development.ohio.gov/bs/bs_lgscgp.htm.
