COLUMBUS - State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) today introduced legislation to rename a portion of State Route 4 in Marion County the “SGT David S. Harris Memorial Highway.” SGT Harris was a Marion resident who was killed in action in Vietnam.

SGT Harris was killed while providing lifesaving aid to his fellow wounded soldiers, while under hostile fire. He received the Silver Star, the Army’s third highest medal for Valor, because of this heroic act. He was also posthumously inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor.

“I have been working with local residents to learn as much as possible about our hometown hero SGT David Harris’,” said Rep. Richardson. “I am proud to honor SGT Harris’ memory by initiating this legislation for a public memorial. If approved, Ohioans will drive along State Route 4 every day and be reminded of his sacrifice for our country.”

The section of State Route 4 that would be renamed runs near Pleasant High School, which he graduated from in 1966.

This legislation will now be assigned a bill number and committee assignment.
