COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) yesterday supported the passage of House Bill 621, legislation that allows any business that can comply with safety standards from government orders or regulations to stay open.

“Small businesses deserve the same opportunity as large retail chains to keep their doors open and employees on the job,” said Richardson, who co-sponsored the bill. “I’m proud the Ohio House took a step forward yesterday in protecting our local economies and supporting small businesses.”

The bill, known as the Business Fairness Act, creates competitive fairness by giving small businesses the ability to maintain operations during a public health emergency.

H.B. 621 is supported by the National Federation of Independent Businesses, Ohio Council of Retail Merchants, and Ohio Small Business Council.

The legislation passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 75-11. It now heads to the Senate for consideration.
