State Rep. Tim Ginter (R-Salem) announces the State Controlling Board’s recent approval of a measure allocating funding toward local transit across Columbiana County due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County will receive a total allocation estimate of $2,918,176. Additionally, Columbiana CARTS is set to receive $120,090.

The appropriations are for rural transit and mobility management purposes, which will help cover current transit operating expenses related to the coronavirus and includes the purchase of personal protective equipment.

“Columbiana County, just like the rest of Ohio, has been impacted due to COVID-19 and our transit system is no exception,” said Ginter. “Thanks to the Controlling Board, this funding will give our transit system relief due to the challenges they have faced from the pandemic as they continue to serve as an important mode of transportation for the people of our great district.”

The board approved this request from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to increase the appropriation authority of $81.9 million from the CARES Act. As a result, these funds are scheduled to be dispersed through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and then allocated across the state through ODOT’s Office of Transit.

The next State Controlling Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 27.
