In recent years, the United States Drug Enforcement Agency has sponsored National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, which serves to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible method to dispose of prescription drugs. The 13th occurrence of this event will take place this year on Saturday, April 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Within the 5th Ohio House District, there will be two locations at which you can dispose of unneeded or expired prescription drugs—the East Liverpool City Hospital Main Entrance (425 W. Fifth Street) or the Salem Regional Medical Center Professional Services Building (2094 E. State Street).

Studies show that when patients follow the instructions of their physician and pharmacist and take their medications as directed, they live longer and healthier lives. A major barrier to this, especially among our senior population, is when prescription dates do not fall on the same day of the month, resulting in the patient being forced to make multiple trips to the pharmacy. Because of this, some go without life-saving medication until their additional prescriptions can be filled. I have recently introduced legislation that would help to alleviate this through a process known as “medication synchronization” or “med sync”.

The budget process took another step this past Wednesday when the Ohio House passed Amended Substitute House Bill 64, which was our version of the state operating budget. The process began back in February when the governor introduced his budget proposal, which then began in the House for consideration. While the basic framework is still in place, the House has made some major changes to the original proposal to improve upon the bill.
