A lifelong resident of Cuyahoga County, Representative Tom Patton grew up as one of nine kids on the near west side of Cleveland. The son of a Cleveland police officer and the father of a Cleveland Heights police officer who tragically died in the line of duty, Representative Patton has taken up many legislative initiatives pertaining to police, firefighters, and first responders. Previously serving as a state representative from 2003-2008 and then as a state senator, he returned to the Ohio House in 2016 to serve the 7th House District as the Majority Whip and in 2019 began his second consecutive term. 02.12.20 - Ohio House Passes Patton's First Responders PTSD Benefits Bill

 

The Ohio House passed State Rep. Tom Patton’s (R-Strongsville) House Bill 308, which allows peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical workers who have PTSD due to employment to be eligible for compensation and benefits regardless if they already suffer from an accompanying injury or not.

 
 

02.10.20 - Representative Patton Applauds Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit With 'American Factory' Oscar Win

 

On Sunday, the Oscars aired and awarded Best Documentary Feature to “American Factory” – a documentary based around an Ohio factory’s reopening by a Chinese billionaire. The film benefitted from the Ohio motion picture tax credit program that began in 2009. Since 2006, Rep. Patton has been a primary sponsor and supporter of several motion picture tax credit bills.

Drug task forces throughout Ohio will be awarded $2 million in grant funding to support local law enforcement in their work to disrupt the drug trade in the state and enhance their role in substance use awareness, prevention, and recovery.
