COLUMBUS -

State Representative Tom Brinkman Jr. (R-Cincinnati) co-sponsored House Bill 294, which redirects funding away from the abortion industry to state programs focused on promoting health care and other services to women.

HB 294 would prohibit state or federal tax dollars from going to any organization that performs elective abortions, promotes elective abortions or contracts with any entity that performs or promotes elective abortions.

The stipulations in this bill apply to federal tax dollars received from federal initiatives such as:

  • The Violence Against Women Act of 1994

  • Breast and Cervical Cancer Mortality Prevention Act of 1990

  • Infertility Prevention Project (operated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

  • Minority HIV/AIDS Initiative (operated by the Office of Minority Health in the US Department of Health and Human Services)

“This bill is about making sure that no taxpayer dollars are used to fund the abortion industry,” said Rep. Brinkman.

Rep. Brinkman was the only elected official to speak at the rally outside Cincinnati Planned Parenthood on Tuesday, July 28th. He has also won the “Warrior for Life” award in 2008 from Greater Cincinnati Right to Life.
