Rep. Gavarone Honors Local Fallen Veteran

COLUMBUS—During yesterday’s House session, State Representative Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) introduced legislation designating a portion of State Route 65 in Wood County as the “Marine Sgt. David R. Christoff, Jr. Memorial Highway.”

Marine Sgt. David R. Christoff of Rossford, Ohio lost his life serving the United States during Operation Iraqi Freedom on May 22nd, 2006. Serving his second tour of duty in Iraq, Sgt. Christoff was killed by a roadside bomb while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Asad, Iraq. Sgt. Christoff is a graduate of Shawnee High School and was attending the University of Toledo when he left to enlist in the Marines following the terrorist attacks on September 11th.

“Over the last two years, I’ve had the opportunity to attend the annual Fallen Heroes Memorial Benefit in Bowling Green and it was there that I learned from friends and family just how much of an impact Sgt. Christoff had on everyone around him and what made him so special,” Gavarone said. “Sgt. Christoff is the definition of a hero and I am humbled to have the chance to honor his service in this way.”

The bill was officially assigned as House Bill 437 and will now be referred to a House committee for further consideration.
